A few days ago I posted an image of an unassuming Middle Eastern man. He is not handsome. He looks like a convicted criminal. Which he was. Not only convicted, but executed.
Most people weren’t drawn to the image, so they didn’t click on the link and read the blog to find out his story. More people will click on the photo I’ve included with this blog.
See—I made you look. You were drawn to the looker.
If I showed you a picture of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and King of Kings, you’d expect to see the Aragorn look from The Lord of the Rings—a handsome, striking, brooding man.
But you’d be wrong, biblically. Isaiah 53 prophesied that the Messiah would have no form or majesty that we should look at him. He wouldn’t
be a movie star. Not a looker. He’d be plain. What would draw people to Him would be something else.
Now, here’s the kicker: The image I showed last week was what forensic scientists believe Jesus of Nazareth would have looked like. It was not an actual photo or painting (none exists), but it was undoubtedly much closer to the reality than the movie star paintings we tend to see.
So, if you saw the previous picture, and were turned off by it, or ignored it as too plain, congratulations—you may have just bypassed your Savior.
